Just for Kids

Library Notes

Happy New Year from your friends at the Goshen Public Library! The new year is a great time to make a resolution to read every day and we want to help you keep that goal. As we move forward to a brand new year, we are going to spend this winter exploring a “Step Back in Time”. We have lots of non-fiction books to help you learn about any moment in history as well as historical fiction to give you unique perspective about a time period. Most of our winter programs, will have a historical significance. Our American Girl with Molly program from the World War II era and our Make Your Own Valentines will have a Victorian look. We are also looking forward to our Celebration of Medieval Mania at the end of March! Just like we did for our Harry Potter celebration, we will be transforming our Just for Kids area into a place with knights, princesses, jugglers and strolling minstrels; and a magnificent royal feast! Of course, we will have our regular storytimes for our youngest patrons (birth – age 5 not in K). Our registration by lottery will take place January 18, 19 and 20 in the Just for Kids area. For those of you not familiar with our programs, please look at their descriptions either on the Events Calendar or on the Winter Program Brochure. These age leveled story times are a perfect way for your children to be exposed to and practice crucial per-literacy skills: Reading, Writing , Singing, Talking and Playing as determined through research done by the Association for Library Service to Children and the Public Library Association. We believe strongly that our programs can help you and your child on the road to becoming a reader! All of us here in the library can’t wait to see everyone in 2012 so stop in and pay us a visit soon.

Online Patch Club

Welcome to the online patch club!  All ages can join and families are encouraged to participate.  When you are in the library, stop in to the Childrens’ Room to get your name on our Patch Club Bulletin Board.  Click on the patch at the left to find this month’s activity. When you have finished, bring the completed project to the Children’s Room to get your patch.  Every month will be a new activity to complete and a new patch to earn!  Patches can be ironed onto bags, sashes or hats.  Hats will be available for purchase at the circulation desk.

Contact Us

The Just for Kids area will be staffed during all the hours of library operation so stop in and say hello to familiar faces as well as some new ones. Our new phone extension is 104. We are working on getting it changed on our literature and in the phone directory. We do have a voicemail box, so please leave us a message and we will return your call as quickly as we can. You can also e-mail us at michelle@goshenpubliclibrary.org with any questions or concerns.
